Those Eyes
I’m in love, it’s true, with all the cows,
With how they shine the whole huge world
In large and soulful eyes.
In love with how their long wet tongues
Turn a kiss into a hug,
With how they know it’s good to chew
And be and see each passing day,
With the way they trust us still
With all we do to them.
One look into that mama’s eye
All cheese is gone and I know why
Tofu rocks for sour cream
And nuts can yield such luscious milk.
Hole me back and keep me still
Lest you find some day I will
Find a way to be that cow.
Or could it be that someone has?
Someone old and wise?
Someone gone from human strife
Who dwells at peace within
Those eyes?
.

Dairy cows are bred yearly in order to produce milk at unnatural levels for our use, while their calves are dragged away shortly after birth for veal or slaughter. Beef usually calves get to stay with their moms about 6 months before being fattened in large feed lots on GMO corn, soy and slaughterhouse meat wastes.
