Painted onsite in a hidden valley west of Santa Maria, California, where I was painting in October 2009 at the ranch of Marcia Burtt, a prominent plein air master. This piece was my favorite from the week of painting, and hers too. It's of a small vineyard owned by her neighbor down a winding dirt road about a mile away, at the far end of a valley that is somehow lost in time, harkening me back to simpler days and simpler ways.
To live simply and to discover a forgotten place of beauty, whether inner or outer, is a hidden treasure of the greatest value. Lovely, soft colors, perfect for a home with bucolic themes.
