Art and the Spiritual Journey
By Susan Hubble Pitcairn and Contributors
A unique and refreshing look at the inspiration behind art and its spiritual significance for how we live. Features the artwork, statements and poetry of eight talented artists, with text by Susan Pitcairn, faculty member of the Sedona Arts Center. A must-read for anyone who has ever wondered what impels us to create beauty.
From the jacket: "The creative process by its very nature is a journey into the psyche. And at the core of what we each are is a space of stillness, beauty and freedom, beyond the confines of conditioned thinking and assumed roles. This is the journey of the artist, and this is the journey of discovery awaiting every human being."

"Very lovely and inspiring!" — Linda L.
" Your poetry brought tears to my eyes (really). You are using art (painting and poetry) for its highest purpose – to communicate spiritual concepts and feelings. Your and my approach to the Divine is different, yet quite similar and I feel what you feel when I experience your art.
What a great invention art is – and so effective in the hands of a great artist like yourself. I say 'great' referring to your effectiveness in communication." — Dale V.

Beyond the Divide
Infinite chasms
Between one and the other,
Sister, brother.
Between us and them,
Between all we want and how things are.
Terrible voids to abide
It’s an art
To live beyond the divide.
Closer, closer than any imagined distances
There is a light on the place at which we stand
Shining always, here, now.
But how we look beyond
And how we glance below
And how we miss the brilliance and the glow.
Know this:
The greatest divide is but a thought apart
From an open heart.
There is no far, there is no near
Beyond the Divide.

Eternal Crossing
Ever, this moment.
Ever and ever again.
Eternally changing,
We are the Life
Poised at that
Eternal Crossing
Between past and future.
It all turns on
The point of change.
What is given can be gone
In an instant.
Strip us naked of all clinging,
That we may,
Again and again,
Come home
To a sacred Now.

Morning Promise
Joy is alive
In the new day of Now,
Fresh sun fresh air fresh birds,
The first ever,
Have we seen this glory before?
I cannot remember.
And yet it is more familiar
Than these hands that write
These eyes that read
And all memories of all that ever was,
Might have been,
Will be,
Or may be,
Put aside now, all,
To allow the great
Ever-renewing,
Ever-surprising,
Ever-delighting
Gift of joy for-no-reason
Unexplainable,
Beyond ordinary rule and principle,
Beyond authority,
Beyond hope and fear,
Simply,
This now, here,
This closer than close.
