Thank you both for your comments. Susan, my experience has been my experience and I know that this issue affected my choices, whether or not you agree. Having recently changed course, I am entitled to ponder a bit about how these issues that are largely outside my control have affected and may still affect me. Even so, I might choose the same path I did and I may choose it again: lIfe has its seasons and its reasons. As I hope I made clear at the end of the article, the most important thing is our happiness and it has little to do with what happens outwardly. Also, please do not let your desire to validate your own choices negate the established fact from social science that there IS a gender filter affecting how people perceive creative work or the obvious truth that men predominate in the upper eschelons of the art world and that may impact some women. We could talk about whether or not it is wise for any of us, spiritually speaking, to hold high ambitions artistically or otherwise. But that is another topic.
